Police Arrest Notorious Gang Leader in Major Anti-Violence Operation

The Kano State Police Command successfully arrested a well-known thug, Inuwa Zakari, widely known by his nickname “Gundura,” along with 14 other individuals. This significant breakthrough is part of the state’s ongoing efforts to combat violent crime and restore peace to the community.

The arrest was announced on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna, who released an official statement detailing the operation. Gundura, 24, had been wanted by the police for several serious offenses across Kano.

Known for leading violent activities in the area, he was identified as the individual who recently launched a brutal attack on a Vigilance Group Commander. The assault left the commander with severe injuries and also led to the destruction of a police vehicle, causing widespread alarm and frustration in the community.

The police’s operation, which spanned from October 25 to October 27, 2024, was launched under the direction of Kano’s Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba. The operation involved a series of “clearance operations” targeting known crime hotspots across Kano.

According to SP Haruna, these efforts underline the police’s commitment to dismantling organized criminal activities and ensuring the safety of Kano’s residents.

In his statement, the Commissioner of Police, Salman Dogo Garba, expressed gratitude to the public for their support, adding that it is essential for the police to have the community’s cooperation in tackling crime effectively. He also urged residents to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that police response would be swift and thorough.
