Police Arrest Officer Accused in Viral Video of Stabbing Man in Ekiti

The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested a police officer accused of stabbing a man in Ise-Ekiti following a family-related argument. The incident, which came to light after a video went viral on social media, has sparked outrage from members of the public who called for justice.

According to the video, a young girl claimed that her father was stabbed in the palm by the officer, believed to be the orderly of a local government chairman. She alleged that the violent incident occurred in their home and was triggered by a dispute between her younger brother and a female classmate.

The girl explained that the classmate reported the disagreement to her boyfriend, who is the police officer now in custody. She said the officer returned with a colleague to confront her family, claiming they were there to arrest someone. The confrontation reportedly escalated into violence, leading to her father sustaining a stab wound.

The Police Public Relations Officer for the state, SP Abutu Sunday, shared a statement on Friday confirming that the officer involved has been detained. He also stated that the case has now been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department for a full inquiry.

“The Ekiti State Police Command has noticed a video circulating on social media where a young girl (name unknown) was complaining that her father was stabbed on his palm by a policeman serving in Ise-Ekiti due to an argument that ensued between her brother and the policeman’s girlfriend,” the statement read.

SP Sunday noted that the Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, has assigned the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the CID to oversee the investigation and ensure a transparent process.

He further added that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken based on the outcome of the investigation. The Command urged the public to remain calm and assured them that the matter will be handled according to the law.
