The Sokoto State Police Command has apprehended several suspects following reports of electric cable theft and infrastructure damage in the Bodinga Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer Ahmad Rufai, the arrests came after a formal complaint was made on May 14, 2025. The report was submitted by Aminu Haliru, an official with the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, who noted multiple incidents involving the theft of armoured transformer cables.
The complaint detailed that six different sites in Bodinga LGA had been affected. These included Tashan Gari, Tashan Gawo Kauran Mijo, Bodinya 3 Marina, Fatima Yahaya Hospital, Tulluwa, and the General Hospital in Bodinga town.
In response, police launched an immediate investigation which led to the arrest of Nuhu Yusuf, a resident of Sifawa. During questioning, Yusuf admitted to being involved in the thefts. He further revealed that he had worked alongside another individual identified as Bello Alhaji Abubakar, who is also known locally by the alias “ZAZU.” Yusuf claimed that Bello assisted in selling the stolen electric cables.
Further investigations led officers to another man, Alhaji Danmaitasha, who was said to have purchased the stolen materials. Law enforcement officials were able to recover a substantial amount of the stolen armoured cables as part of the operation.
