Following credible intelligence, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested three individuals believed to be involved in armed robbery and cult-related activities around the Calabar–Itu Road area. The suspects were taken into custody after a swift operation led by the command’s surveillance unit.
The arrest was disclosed on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, in a statement made available to the public in Uyo. According to her, the police acted on a tip-off that two known gang leaders had been spotted at a guest house in Ntak Inyang.
“Following credible intelligence regarding an impending cult clash along the Calabar-Itu Road, the command swiftly deployed intelligence and surveillance teams to preempt any violence.
“The intelligence report noted that two notorious gang leaders, who have been terrorising the Calabar-Itu axis, were lodging at a guest house in Ntak Inyang.
“On May 1, at approximately 0500 hours, surveillance teams, acting on precise information, raided the identified hideout,” the statement said.
The early morning raid led to the arrest of two men: Joseph Edet from Akon Itam and Ekon Isaiah from Ibiaku Uruan. Both men were confirmed to be members of the Kuklux Klan secret cult. A woman, Esther Otobong Edem, who was at the scene during the raid, was also arrested.
During the operation, the officers recovered a locally made pistol, a battle axe, and a hammer. Additional items found at the location included a bottle with a suspected charm, two torch lights, two mobile phones, and a black bag with various contents.
John noted that a thorough investigation was already in progress and the suspects would face legal proceedings once it is concluded.
She also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help keep communities safe.
