Police Arrest Two Cult Members Linked to Killing of Rivers DPO

Police officers in Rivers State have taken two suspected cult members into custody. The individuals are believed to be part of a group that had been disturbing communities in Ahoada East Local Government Area and surrounding places.

According to the Rivers State Police Command, both men are thought to be part of the Iceland cult, which was led by the late Gift Okpara, also known as “2-Baba.” The group had been linked to several violent crimes in the region, including the brutal killing of Superintendent Bako Angbashim, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ahoada East, in 2023.

The command’s spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, gave a detailed report of the arrest in a press statement issued from Port Harcourt on Tuesday.

She noted that police officers moved quickly after receiving information about one of the suspects’ location. The suspect, identified as Lovegod Goodluck and known by the nickname “K1,” was arrested by the Octopus Tactical Team at his hideout in Ikata Community, Ahoada East.

Iringe-Koko said, “On May 3, 2025, operatives of the command received credible information regarding the whereabouts of a notorious cultist known as aka ‘K1,’ a member of the late 2Baba Iceland cult group.”

“This group was linked to the murder of late SP Bako Angbashim, the then DPO of Ahoada Division.”

She added that the tactical unit moved in swiftly, stormed the camp where the suspect was hiding, and arrested him without delay. Items found at the location include weapons and other materials believed to belong to the cult.

The police later confirmed the arrest of another individual tied to the same group. Both suspects are said to have played active roles in the cult’s activities and acted as top members under the late 2-Baba’s command.

Iringe-Koko notes that the investigation is still ongoing and the police are determined to find other members of the cult gang. She also urged the public to continue sharing useful information that can help the police keep the state safe.
