Police operatives in Lagos State have successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of involvement in the kidnapping of Mrs. Folashade Odumosu, the wife of retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Hakeem Odumosu.
The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Agbojule Smart and 30-year-old Keleke Michael, were arrested in the early hours of Friday, January 24, 2025, as they attempted to leave Lagos State.
This development follows the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, who had ordered a manhunt for those responsible for the crime. The Lagos State Commissioner of Police Special Squad carried out the operation that led to the arrest.
In a statement issued by the Force Headquarters on Friday, it was disclosed that the suspects confessed during interrogation to being members of a four-man gang responsible for the abduction. Two members of the gang had previously been neutralized by the police during a rescue operation for Mrs. Odumosu.
Items recovered from the suspects include N2,250,000, believed to be part of the ransom paid, along with two locally fabricated rifles and 11 live cartridges. The IGP commended the operatives for their efforts, describing their actions as a testament to the Nigeria Police Force’s determination to fight crime and ensure public safety.
“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to public safety and the security of the good citizens of Nigeria,” the statement noted. It further stated that the police are unwavering in their mission to reduce crime to the barest minimum and foster peace across the nation.
The police had earlier confirmed that two suspects were killed in a gunfight during efforts to rescue Mrs. Odumosu.
