The Kano State Police Command has arrested the wife and several associates of Ahmad Adam Abba, a suspected Chadian terrorist wanted for the murder of 17 people in his home country.
The arrests took place on the eve of the National Tijjaniyya Maulud ceremony, which was held at Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano last week. Authorities believe Abba, who is still on the run, had plans to establish a terrorist base in the state.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Friday, Commissioner of Police Salman Garba confirmed the arrest of three individuals linked to Abba. Among those apprehended were his wife, a 42-year-old Chadian named Jibrin Mohammed, and a Nigerian accomplice.
“The wanted Chadian suspected terrorist escaped out of Nigeria, and we have successfully apprehended three of his associates, including his wife, another Chadian named Jibrin Mohammed, 42 years old, and a Nigerian,” Garba stated.
During the operation, security operatives also discovered and recovered Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which were reportedly meant for terrorist activities.
“Acting on one of the intelligence reports, IEDs were recovered, and discreet investigations are ongoing,” he said.
Garba reassured the public that law enforcement agencies were working tirelessly to prevent any security threats in Kano. He noted that the police were collaborating with intelligence agencies and local communities to track down individuals involved in criminal activities.
“Our teams are collaborating closely with other intelligence agencies and the communities to ensure that we are working hand-in-hand to identify any suspicious activities and individuals who may pose a security threat to our society,” he added.
The commissioner urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. He stressed that public cooperation plays a crucial role in maintaining security and preventing future attacks.
“It is vital that we foster trust and cooperation between the police and the communities we serve, as this partnership is essential in combating crime and preventing likely emerging security threats,” he noted.
To further strengthen security, Garba revealed that patrols and surveillance had been increased in areas considered vulnerable to criminal activities. He also stated that the police public relations unit would continue organizing awareness programs to educate residents on security matters.
“Our commitment to ensuring the safety of the people of Kano remains unwavering. We encourage residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements promptly,” he concluded.
