Police Arrests Islamic Cleric Over Murder of Final-Year Student in Kwara

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a 29-year-old Islamic teacher over the alleged murder of a final-year female student from the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin.

The victim, identified as Yetunde Lawal, was reportedly lured by the suspect, whom she had met on Facebook. Sources revealed that the cleric invited her over through a phone call on Monday, and she was later found dead in a location in Ganmo, on the outskirts of Ilorin.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stated that investigations had begun.

“The Kwara Police Command is aware of the gruesome killing of one Miss Yetunde H. Lawal,” the statement read.

According to the police, Yetunde was declared missing by her father, Ibrahim A. Lawal, on February 11, 2025. Following the report, detectives tracked her phone, which led to the arrest of the suspect in his residence in the Offa Garaji area of Ilorin.

Initially, the suspect denied any knowledge of the victim’s whereabouts. However, during a search of his house, he admitted that she had visited him but claimed she died of an asthma attack.

Further investigation by the police revealed a more disturbing discovery—Yetunde’s dismembered body was found hidden in a bowl, along with equipment suspected to have been used in the act.
