The Nigeria Police Force has begun looking into a viral video that shows popular Nollywood actress Angela Okorie jogging while surrounded by armed police officers.
In a statement shared on the police’s official X (formerly Twitter) page on Wednesday, Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, noted that the video does not reflect the professional conduct expected from Nigerian police officers.
According to him, the officers in the footage acted in a way that went against the discipline and order expected of police personnel.
The viral video, which made rounds on social media earlier this week, caused confusion and concern among Nigerians, with many asking why armed officers were trailing a celebrity in what seemed like a casual or staged moment.
The incident has raised questions about the misuse of police resources and the public image of law enforcement.
Although the scene may have taken place during a film production, the police said that does not excuse the behavior of the officers involved.
“The Nigeria Police Force strongly frowns at the conduct of armed police officers seen in a viral video trailing actress Angela Okorie while she jogged—an act considered clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected of personnel of the Force,” the statement read.
Adejobi noted that an internal process has started to trace the officers shown in the video. He added that once they are identified, a full investigation will take place to understand how and why the officers participated in the scene. If they are found guilty of any wrongdoing, disciplinary actions will follow.
The video may be linked to a movie project titled Queen of Guns, which Okorie has been promoting since April. On her Instagram page, she earlier posted a teaser with the caption: “Day 1: Lights camera action! Queen of Guns is ready to blow away your mind. Are you ready?”
