Police Begin Search for Woman After Officer Found Dead in Ogun Hotel

The Ogun State Police Command has launched a search for an unidentified woman after Inspector Haruna Mohammed, a serving officer with the Ishashi Division of the Lagos State Police Command, was found dead in a hotel room at Anthony Uzum Estate, Oyeyemi Akute, Ogun State.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the officer’s death on Sunday. She noted that the woman had checked into the hotel room with the inspector but fled shortly after.

Reports indicate that the officer and the unknown woman arrived at the hotel around 1:00 am on Saturday. A few hours later, the inspector’s body was discovered under unclear circumstances.

According to hotel staff, the manager found the room door unlocked at 8:52 am. Upon entering, they discovered the lifeless body of the police officer. Further investigation revealed that the woman had been seen earlier that morning around 6:00 am when she approached the reception to request a bottle of tap water before disappearing.

Authorities have classified the officer’s death as “unnatural.”

Odutola explained that identifying the deceased was initially difficult. She stated, “At first, only a uniform was found in his bag, so it was not immediately possible to confirm he was a police officer. There was no identification card on him or among his belongings.”

She further noted that after more inquiries, the deceased was identified as an inspector from the Ishashi Division of the Lagos State Police Command. His body was later recognized by authorities, and the Ogun State Police have since begun efforts to locate the missing woman.

This incident bears similarities to another case that occurred in late January when Inspector Lawal Ibrahim from the Kwali Division in the Federal Capital Territory was found dead in a hotel in Gwagwalada after allegedly engaging in a sexual encounter with a woman he had met online.

In that case, Ibrahim had checked into the hotel with a woman named Maryam Abba. The two reportedly spent the night together, and the following morning, he allegedly stopped breathing after another round of intercourse. Abba, noticing something was wrong, attempted to revive him by sprinkling water on him before raising the alarm. She was later arrested, though authorities in the FCT have remained silent on further investigations.
