Police Confirm Killing of DPO by Suspected Kidnappers

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the tragic killing of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho by suspected kidnappers.

In a conversation with Vanguard, the Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, clarified that the attack happened in Agbarho, not Orerokpe, as some earlier reports had suggested.

Edafe explained that the DPO was leading a security operation aimed at tackling criminal activities in the area when he was fatally shot by the armed suspects. He respectfully requested that the name of the deceased officer be withheld for now.

“It is true that our DPO in Agbarho was shot dead by suspected kidnappers during a security operation. We ask that his name be kept out of the media for now,” SP Edafe stated.

The slain officer was working to curb rising criminal activities in the region, which had been a source of concern for residents. The DPO from Orerokpe, who was also part of the operation, was injured during the incident but is reported to be in stable condition. According to SP Edafe, the injured officer is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Following the tragic event, members of the Agbarho vigilante group have mobilized to aid the police in tracking down the culprits.

Sources from the community revealed that the local vigilante team had been searching nearby bushes, hoping to find any evidence that could assist the authorities in apprehending the criminals responsible for the attack.

“Vigilante members have been in the bush since morning, searching for any clues that could aid the investigation and subsequent security operations,” a source from the community shared on condition of anonymity.
