Police Distribute N20.12 Billion to Widows of 7,076 Slain Officers

The Oyo State Police Command, on Tuesday, presented cheques totaling N20.12 billion to 7,076 widows of slain police officers. The event took place at the state command headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

According to the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Johnson Adenola, this disbursement is part of the Nigerian Police Force’s ongoing efforts to support the families left behind by its fallen heroes.

Adenola noted that, “A total of twenty billion, one hundred and twenty three million, four hundred and twenty thousand, six hundred and ninety one naira seventy kobo has been disbursed to 7,076 in the state.”

He also said the gesture reflects the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s commitment to the welfare of both serving officers and the families of those who have died in service.

“To the families of our fallen heroes, I extend our sincere condolences,” he said. “We acknowledge the immense challenges, including financial burdens that come with sudden loss of a family breadwinner. While no amount can fully compensate your loss, we stand in solidarity with you during this difficult time.”

Adenola also pointed out that the Inspector General has introduced a digital system to simplify the process of insurance claim payments. Known as the Nigerian Police Insurance Claim Management Portal, the new system aims to make the process more transparent and efficient.

“By harnessing technology, we are streamlining the process, eliminating bottlenecks, and ensuring beneficiaries receive their entitlements promptly,” Adenola noted.

He encouraged police personnel across the country to take full advantage of the new digital platform. Officers managing insurance matters have been trained on how to use the portal, and the system is now active nationwide.

He further assured the dependants of other late officers who are yet to receive their full entitlements that the process is ongoing and will be completed.

“To the dependents of our other deceased colleagues who are yet to be captured or paid their full entitlement, I wish to reassure you that the current police administration, under the leadership of IGP Egbetokun, will not rest until all the outstanding backlog of claims are fully paid,” he said.
