Police Foil Kidnap in Katsina, Rescue Four

The Katsina State police command has shared details of a successful operation that foiled a planned kidnapping in the State.

The Commissioner of Police for the Katsina State Command confirmed that four people, including a baby girl, were safely rescued after officers confronted a group of suspected bandits in Mazare village, located in Sabuwa Local Government Area.

The event happened in the early hours of Tuesday, June 18th, 2025. According to the police report, a distress call was received around 12:21 a.m. by officers at the Sabuwa Police Division. The report said that armed men attacked the village, shot two residents, and kidnapped three women and a baby.

The injured victims—37-year-old Sa’idu Isa and 61-year-old Sa’idu Wa’alam—were both from the same village. They were quickly taken to a hospital for treatment. Police say they are currently receiving care and responding well.

Upon receiving the emergency call, the Divisional Police Officer quickly led a team of officers to the location. When they arrived, a fierce gunfight broke out between the police and the kidnappers. The superior firepower of the police forced the criminals to flee the scene, leaving behind the kidnapped victims. All four hostages were rescued without any further harm.

Police spokesperson DSP Abubakar Sadiq shared the update with journalists on Wednesday. He also noted that investigations are ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.

CP Bello Shehu praised the officers for their quick action and bravery. He also asked the public to keep helping the police by reporting any suspicious activity in their areas.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, psc, fdc, MNIM, while commending the efforts of the operative, urged the public to continue supporting the efforts of the command by timely reportage of incidents or suspicious criminal activities for prompt and decisive action,” the statement read.
