Police Launch Probe as Rivers Inspector Shoots Self Dead

An inspector attached to the Rivers State Police Command has been reported dead after allegedly taking his own life in Port Harcourt. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday in the Eagle Island area of the city and has since prompted a police investigation.

The officer, identified as Inspector Maxwell Zubu, was reportedly serving as a personal security aide to a former chairman of the Port Harcourt City Local Government Area at the time of the incident. His sudden death has sent shockwaves through the police force and the wider community.

At the moment, the exact cause of the incident remains unclear. Eyewitness accounts are scarce, and no official explanation has been confirmed by the authorities. However, the case has already been logged at the Eagle Island police outpost, which operates under the Azikiwe Police Division located at Illabouchi in the Mile 2 Diobu area of Port Harcourt.

A source within the police division, who spoke on condition of anonymity, mentioned that a team of officers from the Azikiwe division had visited the scene as part of their early inquiry. “Some policemen from the Azikiwe Police Division visited the scene as part of preliminary investigation procedures,” the source disclosed.

When contacted for an official response, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident. She, however, refrained from sharing detailed information, stating that a full investigation had already begun.

“Yes I can confirm, but we have commenced investigation to ascertain the cause of the incident and we will make our findings public,” she said.

She further noted that the case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Port Harcourt for a more in-depth probe.
