The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 98 individuals suspected of being involved in different criminal activities within the state.
Speaking to reporters at the police headquarters in Bompai, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, noted that the suspects were picked up over a 24-day period. According to him, they are linked to 21 major crime cases, ranging from robbery and kidnapping to fraud and drug-related offences.
CP Bakori gave a full breakdown of the arrests, stating that 47 of the suspects were apprehended for thuggery (also known locally as “daba”), 21 for armed robbery, and 12 for stealing motor vehicles. Others include five for theft, five for drug dealing, four for fraud, and four for kidnapping.
“Within 24 days, a total of ninety-eight (98) suspects have been arrested, involved in twenty-one (21) major cases of armed robbery, thuggery (Daba), drug dealings, theft, fraud, etc. Four (04) suspected kidnappers, Twenty-one (21) suspected armed robbers, Five (5) suspected drug dealers, Twelve (12) suspected motor vehicle thieves, Four (04) suspected fraudsters, Five (05) suspected thieves and Forty-seven (47) suspected thugs,” CP Bakori said.
He also noted that items recovered from the suspects include several weapons, suspected stolen vehicles, tricycles, motorcycles, mobile phones, fake currencies, and drugs.
To address the rising security threats, the Police Commissioner said the force has launched a fresh initiative named “Operation Kukan Kura.” He said the new operation is designed to detect and tackle criminal actions like thuggery within Kano city, as well as banditry and kidnapping near the borders of the state. It also focuses on stopping drug trafficking and abuse.
“Significant breakthroughs have been made since the launch of the operation on 1st of July, 2025,” he noted.
