The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has confirmed the arrest of four individuals in Uyo over their alleged involvement in criminal activities, particularly theft and the handling of stolen property. The suspects were apprehended during a well-coordinated operation in the early hours of Friday, following a tip-off.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the operation took place around 1:15 a.m. on Udi Street, Uyo. She noted that officers of the command acted on credible intelligence and under the direction of the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Azare.
“In a significant intelligence-led operation, operatives of the command raided a location in Udi Street, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of numerous stolen items. The raid also resulted in the arrest of another two suspected receivers of stolen property,” she explained.
Items recovered from the scene include 14 sewing machine heads and a generator, all believed to have been stolen. DSP John also mentioned that two victims have already come forward to identify some of the recovered sewing machines as theirs.
The arrests appear to be a part of a broader effort by the Akwa Ibom Police Command to clamp down on criminal networks operating within Uyo and its surrounding areas. DSP John noted that the police are still investigating to uncover more details about the suspects’ activities and to determine if they are connected to a wider criminal ring.
She also urged residents to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely and accurate information that could help in curbing crime.
