Officers of the Nigerian Police Force in Sokoto State have apprehended two individuals in connection with a car theft incident reported earlier this month. The suspects, identified as 44-year-old Austin Anthony and 32-year-old Mansur Abubakar, are currently in custody.
This development was disclosed in a statement released on Monday by ASP Ahmed Rufai, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command. The statement provided details of the events leading to the arrests.
According to ASP Rufai, the incident was reported on the morning of December 5, 2024, by two victims, Adamu Muhammad and Kabiru Shehu, both residents of the Badon Barade area of Sokoto. The complainants reported that their vehicles—a Toyota Corolla LE, ash in color, and a Pontiac Vibe—were stolen around 4 a.m. that day.
Upon receiving the report, officers from the Striking Force Unit acted swiftly. They immediately issued alerts to police checkpoints in the area. Their efforts bore fruit when one of the stolen vehicles was intercepted in Bodinga town, en route to Birnin-Kebbi, with one of the suspects behind the wheel.
