The Nigerian Police Force successfully intercepted two armed robbery suspects during a patrol in a forested area in Kebbi, resulting in one suspect being killed and the other arrested.
The incident occurred on the evening of December 9, 2024, as reported in a press statement by SP Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command.
According to the statement, a joint team of police officers and local vigilantes from the Zogirma Divisional Police Headquarters encountered the suspects while patrolling the Tilli/Durhella forest.
The suspects, identified as Gaboje Alhaji Bello, a resident of Sabuwar Tunga village in Bunza Local Government Area, and Wantude Alhaji Adure from Ilorin, Kwara State, reportedly opened fire upon being approached by the security team.
“In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, Gaboje was killed, while his accomplice, Wantude, was apprehended,” the statement read. The police recovered a locally-made pistol and one live cartridge from the suspects during the operation.
The Commissioner of Police for Kebbi State, CP Bello Sani, commended the bravery and diligence of the officers involved in the operation. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting the lives and property of residents, urging his team to remain steadfast in the fight against crime.
CP Sani has also directed the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and appropriate legal action.
