The Ogun State Police Command carried out a two-hour security operation at the Sagamu Interchange on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway following concerns over criminal activities in the area. The raid led to the discovery of a criminal hideout in a nearby bush and the arrest of three suspects.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, personally assessed the area, noting the presence of illegal traders and touts operating at the interchange. The police command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, confirmed these details in a statement on Wednesday.
Odutola explained that this operation was initiated in response to growing concerns about insecurity along the expressway. She referenced reports circulating on social media regarding an alleged attack on March 21, 2025. The incident reportedly involved a victim returning from a vigil who was attacked under the bridge and later succumbed to injuries. However, Odutola clarified that no official report of such an incident was made at any police station.
To improve security at the interchange, police reinforcements have been deployed. Odutola stated, “As part of these measures, personnel from the Quick Response Squad, OP Mesa, and Mobile Police Squadrons 71 have been strategically stationed at key locations, including under the bridge, at the roundabouts, and along the inward and outward routes of the four intersections.”
She further noted that after the raid and arrests, the police took immediate action to disband illegal trading activities under the interchange bridge. Additionally, the Commissioner of Police has engaged with transport union members to redirect traffic towards better-lit and more secure areas.
