Police Reject Allegations of Inaction on Student Kidnappings, Highlight Recent Arrests

The Nigeria Police Force has strongly denied accusations of being indifferent to the ongoing kidnappings of students in Imo State, assuring the public that they are actively working to combat the crime.

In a statement released by Force Headquarters and signed by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Muyiwa Adejobi, the Imo State Police Command emphasized its commitment to fighting crime and noted recent successes in tackling kidnappings in the state.

The statement detailed the arrest of five individuals suspected of involvement in various kidnappings in the areas of Obinze, Avu, and Ihiagwa.

The suspects, named as Umaru Usman, Tukur Yau, Musbau Sabo, Abdul Ibrahim, and Jubrin Idris, were apprehended on August 21, 2024, in Avu, Imo State.

In addition to these arrests, the police reported the rescue of a kidnapped victim, showcasing their efforts to combat such crimes in the region.

Furthermore, the police disclosed the arrest of another suspect, Nwauba Alex, a 25-year-old man from Ezza Local Government Area in Ebonyi State.

Alex was caught while attempting to rob two individuals at gunpoint near Aladinma Primary School in Owerri. During the arrest, officers recovered a locally made pistol, two rounds of live ammunition, and torchlights from the suspect.

The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its dedication to tackling serious crimes and enhancing security across Imo State.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, reaffirmed the force’s commitment, highlighting the implementation of both proactive and reactive strategies to effectively address crime in the state.
