Officers of the Edo State Police Command successfully rescued three kidnapped victims, including a police officer, who were abducted while traveling from Abuja to Onitsha, Anambra State.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Moses Yamu, identified the victims as ASP Elisha Jeremiah, Oyedele Ebenezer, and Useni Malam Inusa.
He noted that they were freed on February 3 following a coordinated operation involving officers from the Ubiaja Divisional Headquarters and other tactical units.
Security operatives acted swiftly after receiving intelligence about the victims’ location. They mobilized to the dense forests around Ugbebor, where they worked alongside local hunters and vigilante groups to track down the kidnappers.
“The kidnappers abandoned their victims and fled when they sensed that the operatives were closing in on them,” Yamu said.
The victims were taken to a medical facility for treatment and will soon reunite with their families.
Edo State Commissioner of Police, Betty Otimenyin, has ordered the deployment of additional Police Mobile Force personnel to ensure the kidnappers are apprehended.
