The Plateau State Police Command has successfully rescued four children who were allegedly lured away by suspected child traffickers in Jos, Plateau State. The children were reportedly enticed with biscuits by individuals believed to be involved in child trafficking. This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adesina, during a press briefing held at the Command’s headquarters on Wednesday.
According to Adesina, the police were alerted to the disappearance of the children on 12 October 2024. The children had gone missing the previous day, raising alarm among their families and neighbors.
“At about 4:30 pm on 11 October 2024, we received a report at ‘A’ Division Police Station that four children were unaccounted for,” Adesina said.
He further explained that the last time the children were seen, they were in the company of a woman named Comfort. This woman, according to a neighbor’s daughter, was a frequent visitor to the compound and had been buying biscuits for the children.
Once the report was made, police officers acted swiftly, launching an investigation that led to the successful rescue of the missing children. Two suspects have been arrested in connection with this case, though their identities were not disclosed.
The Commissioner assured the public that further investigations are underway to uncover the full details of the trafficking scheme and bring any other involved individuals to justice.
In addition to the rescue of the children, the Commissioner of Police highlighted the arrest of 25 suspects across Plateau State for various crimes. One of these suspects, Emmanuel Joseph, was arrested for his involvement in a robbery. On 8 October 2024, Joseph reportedly robbed a woman named Sandra Dalyop of her phone and power bank as she was returning from church.
Dalyop reported the incident to the police on 16 October, and investigations quickly led to Joseph’s capture. “Our operatives arrested Emmanuel Joseph of Rukuba Road, and a locally fabricated pistol was recovered from him,” Adesina stated.
The stolen items, a Tecno Camon 12 Pro phone valued at N60,000 and a Redmi power bank worth N15,000, had been taken during the robbery, but were not immediately recovered.
