The Nasarawa State Police Command has successfully rescued the traditional ruler of Dari, Emmanuel Omanji, who was kidnapped from his home in Kokona Local Government Area on May 28, 2025.
The rescue operation was carried out late Monday night, June 2, and led to the safe return of the monarch without any injuries.
In a press release shared with journalists in Lafia on Tuesday, the command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the ruler’s release. “The command is pleased to report that the Sangarin Dari, who was abducted on May 28, was successfully rescued unhurt,” he said.
Nansel explained that the operation took place around 11 p.m. in the Panwasa Mountains, close to Mada Station. He noted that the success came after ongoing efforts and pressure from the police Search and Rescue Team, who had been working tirelessly since the abduction.
Immediately after the rescue, Emmanuel Omanji was taken to a medical facility for a full check-up to ensure his health and well-being. Authorities said he has since been reunited with his family.
The police are still looking for the suspects behind the abduction. “Efforts are ongoing by our operatives to apprehend the fleeing suspects involved in the abduction,” Nansel added.
Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, expressed his appreciation to residents who gave useful information that helped the operation. He also thanked local security volunteers and other law enforcement groups who worked together to bring the traditional leader back safely.
“The cooperation from the public and the joint efforts of the various security units made this rescue possible,” the police said.
