The Bauchi State Police Command is actively searching for four suspects linked to the brutal killing of a 70-year-old woman, Talatu Joshua, in Kirfi Local Government Area (LGA) of Bauchi State.
In a statement released on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ahmed Wakil, the command noted that it took action after receiving a petition regarding the case. The petition, sent by Ada-Light Kwaltings, Samuel & Partners, raised concerns about the alleged inaction of the Kirfi Police Division in handling the matter.
Wakil stated, “The Bauchi State Police Command has received a petition and correspondence from Ada-Light Kwaltings, Samuel & Partners concerning the murder of Talatu Joshua, a 70-year-old resident of Gobir village in the Kirfi Local Government Area (LGA).”
He further noted that the suspected killers have been identified as Rilwanu Mani (Chiroman Gobir), Ali Isah (Sarkin Gobir), Ila Amo (Marafan Gobir), and Jamilu, all from Gobir village in Kirfi LGA.
According to the petition, Talatu was attacked on March 2, 2025, while on her way home from St. Benedict Catholic Church. She was assaulted with sticks, knives, and cutlasses, suffering severe injuries that led to her death at the scene before any help could reach her.
Upon being notified, a police officer, ASP Jerry, and his team arrived at the scene and confirmed the victim’s death. Wakil stated that despite this, the officers reportedly told the complainant that he would be updated the following day. However, by March 3, 2025, no further communication had been received. The complainant then contacted ASP Jerry again, who advised him to proceed with the burial, saying all necessary information had already been gathered.
Since the attack, the suspects have fled the area, and no arrests have been made. Wakil noted that the lack of immediate action by the Kirfi Division has raised concerns, as the suspects are still on the run. He added that Talatu, a mother of 10 and grandmother of 40, had spent her life in Jinga village, Kirfi LGA, and her murder has left the community in shock.
