Police to Prosecute Truck Driver Over Killing of Easter Worshippers in Gombe

The Gombe State Police has filed charges against Usman Muhammed, the driver whose truck plowed into Christian worshippers during an Easter procession earlier this week.

The tragic event unfolded on Monday in Tashan Gona, located within Billiri Local Government Area. According to reports, a truck carrying grains lost control and crashed into a group of worshippers who were returning from an Easter prayer gathering.

In an official statement, Buhari Abdullahi, spokesperson for the Gombe State Police Command, noted that a two-count charge has been formally filed against Muhammed. The 28-year-old driver is being charged with reckless driving and causing death by dangerous driving.

“The driver of the truck, one Usman Muhammed, male, 28 years old, of Afghanistan Quarters, has been formally charged with (1) inconsiderate driving and (2) causing death by dangerous driving, and the matter will proceed to court,” the police spokesperson stated.

Authorities have confirmed that the case will be heard at Chief Magistrate Court 7 in Gombe.
