Power Outages Persist in Lagos as EKEDC Confirms Reduced Electricity Supply

Lagos residents are still facing widespread power outages due to ongoing issues with the electricity transmission network. The Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has confirmed that the current load-shedding situation is caused by a reduced power supply from the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

In a statement shared on its X handle on Monday, EKEDC noted that faults on the 330kV transmission lines supplying electricity to Lagos have led to a significant drop in power allocation. This has forced the company to ration electricity, resulting in prolonged blackouts in many parts of the city.

“This is to kindly update you that we are still experiencing reduced power allocation from our TCN partners due to faults on the 330kV lines feeding the Lagos region.

“The situation has resulted in the continued load-shedding across our network leading to the current power situation you are experiencing,” EKEDC stated.

Many Lagos residents and businesses have expressed frustration over the worsening power situation. The unreliable electricity supply has disrupted daily activities, making it difficult for businesses to operate smoothly.

EKEDC acknowledged the hardship faced by customers and assured them that efforts are underway to restore normal supply as soon as possible.

“Rest assured that we are taking all necessary steps to address the situation as we work closely with TCN and other partners to resolve the issue and ensure a more stable power supply soonest,” the statement continued.

The company also expressed gratitude to its customers for their patience during this period.

EKEDC has pledged to keep working with TCN to restore the full power supply, though no specific timeline has been given for when the issue will be completely resolved.
