The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, says that Nigerians will soon see major improvements in electricity supply, noting that the government is already working hard to correct long-standing issues in the power sector.
Speaking with reporters in Ibadan after joining other Muslim faithful to observe the Eid-el-Kabir prayers at the Agodi Prayer Ground, Adelabu shared his optimism about the future of electricity in the country. He noted that while some improvements have already been noticed, much bigger changes are coming.
According to Adelabu, the problems that have troubled the power sector for many years are now being addressed by the Bola Tinubu-led administration. He explained that the government has been focusing on fixing the root causes, especially the weak structures that made power delivery unreliable.
“Let me say that the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. Rome was not built in a day. And for you to build a solid building, there must be a very solid and reliable foundation. The power sector had some serious foundational structural issues, which we have been able to correct with this administration,” he said.
Adelabu noted that the recent progress Nigerians are witnessing is just the beginning. He promised that within the next year, there would be noticeable development in electricity supply that will reach homes, businesses, schools, and factories across the country.
He also recalled that President Bola Tinubu had restated his commitment to powering the entire country during a recent event in Port Harcourt, where a power plant was launched.
“President Tinubu assured that his major objective is to make sure that he electrifies every Nigerian home, household, businesses, institutions, and industries. And I can tell you that we are not relenting,” Adelabu said.
The minister reminded the public that he only assumed office in September 2023, and in less than two years, visible progress has already been made. He promised that the coming year would bring even more improvements that will boost industries and revive small businesses.
“I promise you that within the next one year, you are going to see major improvement that will develop our industries, that will resuscitate our small and cottage businesses, that will bring happiness back to homes where everywhere is lit up and there will not be darkness,” he added.
