Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede, revealed that President Bola Tinubu did all he could to save the life of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday night, General Oluyede expressed the deep sadness felt across the Nigerian Army at the loss of such a committed leader.
“His death is highly regrettable,” Oluyede stated. “Under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the country did everything possible to keep him with us. He was someone who gave his all to Nigeria.”
General Oluyede described Lagbaja as a “selfless leader” and emphasized his passion and dedication to Nigeria. According to Oluyede, Lagbaja led with courage, precision, and professionalism, leaving a legacy that the army will always honor.
“He led the Nigerian Army with courage, thoroughness, and professionalism. His loss is a profound one for us, and we pray that the good Lord will grant him rest.”
The Acting Army Chief urged Nigerians to honor Lagbaja for his numerous contributions to the country, highlighting that he worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of Nigeria. “I want Nigerians to truly celebrate him for the good work he did,” he added.
Lieutenant General Lagbaja, who was 56 years old, passed away after battling an undisclosed illness. According to reports, he died while receiving medical treatment in Lagos shortly after returning from abroad.
His death led to Oluyede’s appointment as the Acting Chief of Army Staff, a role he now takes up with a commitment to carry forward Lagbaja’s legacy of dedication and service to the nation.
