Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make tough decisions by letting go of some ministers and security chiefs who he believes are not delivering results as Nigeria continues to face serious economic and security problems.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, the former Abia State Governor said many Nigerians are still suffering despite the promises of the current administration’s reforms.
Kalu noted that while some of Tinubu’s policies may be good on paper, the benefits are not yet reaching ordinary people, especially in villages and poor communities.
“Nigerians in the lower area are still suffering. They have not started having the benefit of the changes President Bola Tinubu has made, the changes are trickling down. It’s going to take another one, two years, and what is causing this? Because the insurgencies and the problems all over Nigeria are still making people not going to the farm,” Kalu said during the interview.
He pointed to the link between insecurity and food shortages, saying that people in many parts of the country are afraid to go to their farms because of violence. According to him, this is directly affecting food supply, leading to more hardship for millions of Nigerians.
Kalu said it is time for President Tinubu to act boldly and remove underperforming officials. “Some people working with the President should be relieved of their duties. Some of them should go, both in security sector and ministers. Some of them should go. President must be courageous enough to sack some of these ministers.”
He also noted that Nigeria needs leaders who are both competent and committed. “If it is my advice, most of these ministers, most of them should go – that is the truth. Some of the security chiefs will also go. There’s no sentiment about redeeming Nigeria, if we really want to redeem.”
