The All Progressives Congress (APC) has faced a significant setback in Anambra State as Chief George Moghalu, a founding member and former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), has resigned from the party.
Moghalu, who was also the former National Auditor of the APC, formally announced his departure in a letter dated August 26, 2024, addressed to the chairman of Uruagu Ward 1 in Nnewi, located in the Nnewi North local government area.
In his resignation letter, Chief Moghalu stated, “I bring to you the good wishes of my dear family and to formally notify you of my decision to resign my Membership of the All Progressives Congress, APC with effect from today 26th day of August, 2024.”
He described his resignation as a personal decision and expressed his hope that all members would maintain the friendly relationships built over the years. “I wish you and all the Members of the Party the very best. Please accept as always the assurance of my best regard,” he added.
Known for his consistent loyalty to the party, Moghalu played a crucial role in the APC’s formation. He served as the coordinating secretary during the merger of the legacy parties that led to the birth of the APC. He also contested for the party’s governorship ticket twice, in 2017 and 2021, showcasing his deep commitment to the party’s growth in Anambra State.
Chief Moghalu’s last involvement with the APC was at the State Youth Wing Conference in Awka, where he made a significant donation to the party’s youth wing. When contacted regarding his next steps, Moghalu stated that his future political plans would be announced soon.
