Prominent Broadcaster Bukola Agbakaizu Slumps, Dies in Abeokuta

Bukola Agbakaizu, a respected broadcaster with Ogun State Television (OGTV), tragically collapsed and passed away on Monday while preparing for her afternoon shift at the station. She was 52 years old.

Agbakaizu, a long-standing member of the OGTV team, was known for her dedication to journalism and her vibrant spirit.

She was also a former Vice Chairman of the OGTV Chapel and served as an ex-Officio of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Ogun State Council until her untimely death. Her sudden collapse has left many in the journalism community and beyond in shock.

Her passing was confirmed by the Secretary of the Ogun State Council of the NUJ, Mr. Bunmi Adigun, who expressed deep sadness over the loss. According to the statement, Agbakaizu was preparing for her shift at the state-owned television station when she suddenly slumped.

Despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre.

“Agbakaizu, a dedicated staff member of Ogun State Television, tragically collapsed while preparing for afternoon shift, and despite efforts to revive her, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Federal Medical Centre,” the statement reads.

“A versatile journalist and a passionate comrade, Bukola served as a former Vice Chairman of OGTV Chapel and was an invaluable member of the Wale Olanrewaju-led Executive. Her vibrant spirit and commitment to journalism will be sorely missed, leaving an irreplaceable void in our community.”

Agbakaizu’s sudden death has caused a deep sense of loss in the local journalism community. The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter, also expressed grief over the passing of their colleague.

In a statement released by the Chapter’s Chairperson, Sekinat Salam, the association described Agbakaizu as a dedicated and hardworking member whose loss is deeply felt.

“Ogun NAWOJ received the news of Mrs Bukola Agbakaizu with a rude shock. Her death came when her experience and exemplary leadership would be needed by the association. As a dedicated member of NUJ, Ogun State Council and NAWOJ, Ogun State chapter, the mother of two will be sorely missed by all,” said Salam.

“Her compassion towards others, dedication, love, and passion for the pen profession will always be remembered and cherished by all. Though she passed on at the age of 52, her dedication to God and service to humanity will continue to keep her in our memories for a long time to come.”

Agbakaizu leaves behind her two children, her elderly mother, and many colleagues and friends who are mourning her sudden passing. As her family and colleagues grieve, many have offered prayers for her soul to rest in peace, while also expressing hope for the protection and strength of her loved ones in this difficult time.
