Reports of Explosion at Jos Market False – Governor Mutfwang Says, Assures Public of Safety

The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has dismissed claims of an explosion in Jos, the state capital, calling the reports “false.”

On Tuesday, there were circulating rumors suggesting that an explosion had occurred at the old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) site, near Terminus Market in the Jos North Local Government Area. Some reports claimed that Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were planted at the location, and three such devices were supposedly found.

However, in a statement issued by Gyang Bere, the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, it was revealed that the alarm was based on a misunderstanding. According to Bere, a pile of polythene bags was wrongly identified as a potential threat, sparking the false reports.

Security teams, including the anti-bomb squad from the Plateau State Police Command, acted quickly, responding to the scene with a detailed search operation. “After an exhaustive inspection, no evidence of any explosive device was found,” the statement said.

Governor Mutfwang reassured the public that the state government is dedicated to maintaining peace and security in Plateau State. He also urged citizens to stay alert and be responsible in preventing the spread of false information.
