A group of retired military personnel staged a protest on Thursday at the Federal Ministry of Finance, demanding the payment of their long-overdue entitlements. The demonstration, which began as early as 7:30 a.m., saw the retirees setting up camp outside the ministry’s headquarters in Abuja.
The retired soldiers arrived with sleeping mats, chairs, and canopies, signaling their readiness for a prolonged protest if their demands were not met. Their grievance centers around the federal government’s alleged failure to pay a promised salary increase of 20% to 28%, covering the period from January to November 2024.
Speaking to reporters, some of the protesters expressed frustration over the government’s neglect. One retiree, who chose to remain anonymous, shared that the unpaid increment has significantly impacted their livelihoods, making it difficult to meet daily needs.
