Details have emerged about why President Bola Tinubu suddenly removed Yusuf Bichi from his position as the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS).
On Monday, the President appointed Mohammed Mohammed as the new head of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), and Adeola Ajayi to replace Bichi as the new DSS chief.
According to sources, the decision is part of the government’s plan to strengthen efforts to combat terrorism and kidnapping across Nigeria, which remain major security concerns. The removal of Bichi is reportedly linked to growing tensions within the administration’s security apparatus.
Insiders suggest that Bichi’s dismissal was driven by his alleged involvement in disrupting the National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu’s efforts to lead a coordinated strategy to tackle terrorism.
According to reports, Ribadu believed that Bichi was not fully supporting the security measures put in place by the President to rid the country of terrorists and kidnappers.
“Ribadu feels Bichi has been sabotaging his coordinating efforts to carry out the marching order given by the President to rid the country of terrorists and kidnappers,” a source close to the situation told POLITICS NIGERIA.
Adeola Ajayi, who is now the new DSS Director-General, is a seasoned officer with years of experience.
He has served as State Director in several key states, including Bauchi, Enugu, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Kogi, before rising to his previous position as Assistant Director-General.
Ajayi’s extensive experience within the DSS is seen as an asset in leading the fight against Nigeria’s security challenges.
