Former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uche Secondus, has publicly commended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, for his courage in standing firm amid political pressure.
Secondus highlighted Fubara’s refusal to be intimidated during the recent local government elections in the state, in what many believe was a veiled criticism of former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.
In a statement released on Wednesday by his media adviser, Ike Abonyi, Secondus applauded Fubara’s leadership and resilience.
According to him, Governor Fubara’s firm stance in the face of opposition is proof of his dedication to democratic values and the well-being of the people of Rivers State. Secondus was quoted saying, “You’ve stood out for refusing to be intimidated.”
Although Wike was not directly mentioned, Secondus’ remarks seem to target the former governor, who has had a strained relationship with his successor since leaving office.
Tensions between the two political figures have intensified in recent months, with Fubara taking steps to establish his own authority, distancing himself from Wike’s influence.
Secondus emphasized that Fubara’s determination to uphold democracy and protect his people from any form of political intimidation showcases true leadership.
He further added, “Governor Fubara has demonstrated true leadership by standing firm for democracy. His refusal to bow to intimidation is a testament to his commitment to his people and their future.”
In addition to his praise for Fubara, Secondus called on President Bola Tinubu to cooperate closely with the Rivers State Governor to safeguard critical national assets located within the state.
Rivers State, being a key economic hub in Nigeria, holds strategic importance for the country, and Secondus believes that collaboration between the federal and state governments is essential for the development and protection of these assets.
Secondus wrapped up his statement by congratulating the people of Rivers State for their significant turnout during the elections. He reaffirmed his full support for Governor Fubara’s leadership and expressed confidence in the governor’s ability to continue steering the state toward progress.
