Rivers Judiciary Denies Report on Chief Judge’s Alleged One-Year Leave

The Rivers State Judiciary has dismissed claims that the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Amadi, is set to take a one-year leave. The report, which surfaced on Wednesday, suggested that Amadi made the announcement amid the ongoing political tensions in the state.

The claim further speculated that the supposed leave could impact the rumored impeachment process against Governor Siminalayi Fubara. However, the Rivers State Judiciary has firmly rejected these allegations, calling them false and misleading.

In a statement released on Thursday, the Chief Registrar of the Rivers State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi, stated that Justice Amadi has no such plans and urged the public to disregard the report. He also clarified that the alleged leave does not exist within the judiciary’s official vacation schedule.

“For the records, the chief judge did not at any time announce nor intend to announce embarking on any recess or extended recess leave by whatsoever name called, as such leave is alien to the judicial officers’ calendar of vacations,” the statement reads.

He further noted that judicial officers in the state follow a well-known vacation schedule, which includes Christmas, Easter, and an annual vacation. Any claims outside these recognized periods, he said, are baseless.
