Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has proudly highlighted his administration’s progress, expressing that the people of Rivers, particularly civil servants, are pleased with his government’s achievements. He credited this to his administration’s focus on people-centered policies and programs aimed at fostering development and improving lives.
Speaking at the Banquet Hall of the Government House in Port Harcourt during the launch of the Emblem Appeal Fund for the upcoming Armed Forces Remembrance Day on January 15, 2025, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to meeting the needs of the people and ensuring stability in the state.
The governor outlined several key accomplishments, including employing over 2,000 professionals in the healthcare sector and approving 1,000 teaching positions for the Universal Basic Education (UBE) and Post-Primary Schools Boards. While he acknowledged the suspension of the planned 10,000 civil service appointments, he emphasized that the decision was made to prioritize hiring skilled professionals to advance the state’s growth.
On education, Governor Fubara noted the government’s ongoing scholarship efforts. While the state’s scholarship board is not yet operational, scholarships have already been provided to students at PAMO University of Medical Sciences and Wigwe University. He assured that more opportunities would follow once the scholarship board is fully activated.
Civil servants, he added, have seen significant salary increases, now earning between N120,000 and N140,000, compared to the previous N70,000. “The greatest joy for any government is to ensure the happiness of its people,” Fubara stated, emphasizing that this improvement reflects his administration’s commitment to enhancing workers’ welfare.
Reflecting on the importance of supporting veterans, Governor Fubara shared a personal story about his late father, a military officer, underscoring the need to honor those who have sacrificed for the nation. He urged citizens to contribute to the Emblem Appeal Fund, highlighting the enduring value of supporting families of fallen heroes.
“Our nation owes a great debt to the military for safeguarding our unity and sovereignty,” he said, calling for collective efforts to support their families.
