The Rivers State House of Assembly has decided to suspend its sittings indefinitely. The decision was made during a plenary session held on Friday in Port Harcourt, presided over by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
This move comes just hours after Governor Siminalayi Fubara formally informed the Speaker of his intention to visit the Assembly to present the 2025 Appropriation Bill.
The governor’s letter, dated March 13, was addressed to Amaewhule and proposed that the budget be presented on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, or on any other date within March that the lawmakers found suitable.
Fubara’s decision to re-present the budget follows a Supreme Court judgment and the lawmakers’ request for him to do so.
He also recalled his previous attempt to present the budget at the Assembly Quarters, where the lawmakers had been holding sessions temporarily. On that occasion, he and his entourage were reportedly denied entry.
