The National Leadership of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has denied recent media reports claiming the appointment of three new members to its National Working Committee (NWC). The party described these claims as false and unauthorised, urging both members and the public to disregard them.
In an official statement released by the Deputy National Secretary, Alhaji Muhammad Biu, the SDP dismissed reports suggesting that Senator Ugochukwu Uba, Dr. Sadiq Umar Abubakar, and Mr. Hussaini Ado Bello were appointed as Deputy National Chairman (South), Deputy National Chairman (North), and National Financial Secretary, respectively.
These reports were said to be based on a statement allegedly issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba. However, the SDP leadership clarified that no official meeting or constitutional session had taken place to approve such appointments.
“We wish to categorically state that no such appointments have been made, and the press release in circulation is false, unauthorised, and does not reflect the decisions or procedures of the SDP National Working Committee,” the party noted.
The leadership also made clear that the supposed meeting held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, did not approve any resolutions related to changes in the NWC. They reassured members of their commitment to following due process, transparency, and inclusive participation in all matters concerning party leadership and national representation.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, the SDP leadership noted attempts by some individuals and political opponents to create confusion and weaken the party. The party urged its supporters to ignore misleading reports and remain focused on strengthening the party’s presence across Nigeria. They reiterated their dedication to national development and empowering communities at the grassroots level.
Furthermore, the SDP leadership emphasized that the party is a national platform driven by the values of inclusion, transparency, and service, not a personal project. They encouraged members to continue working hard to mobilize support and prepare the party for the upcoming elections.
