The Senate has officially confirmed the appointments of three nominees by President Bola Tinubu for key positions at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). This confirmation took place on Thursday following the presentation and adoption of the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters’ report during plenary.
The confirmed nominees are Tukur Abdulrazaq, who will serve as the National Electoral Commissioner for the North West, Prof. Sunday Nwambam Aja, who will represent the South East, and Saseyib Feyijimi Ibeyemi, who has been appointed as the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Ondo State.
The Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, led by Senator Alli Sharafadeen, presented the report for the consideration of the Senate. Senator Sharafadeen emphasized that the nominees are experienced electoral managers with a strong track record in the field. He added that no petitions were raised against the nominees, further supporting their suitability for the positions.
After the confirmation, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over the plenary, commended the Committee for its thorough work in ensuring a smooth confirmation process. He also urged the newly confirmed electoral officials to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and dedication in their roles.
