The Nigerian Senate has approved a bill to provide a legal framework for the establishment and operation of Police Training Institutions across the country. The decision came after the Senate adopted the report presented by the Committee on Police Affairs during its plenary session on Wednesday.
Senator Abdulhamid Ahmed, Chairman of the Committee on Police Affairs, highlighted the importance of the bill while presenting the report. He stated that the legislation aims to improve the effectiveness of these institutions and enhance the capacity of police personnel for better service delivery.
According to Ahmed, the lack of legal backing and sufficient funding has hindered the progress of these institutions, some of which have suffered years of neglect. “The bill will ensure that these training centers function as high-level institutions providing professional training and other related programs,” he explained.
Senator Abdul Ningi supported the initiative, emphasizing the need for well-trained personnel to strengthen the Nigerian Police Force. “Passing this bill will ensure the police receive the necessary training to meet their constitutional responsibilities and adapt to modern challenges,” Ningi remarked.
If signed into law, the bill will not only revitalize the existing training facilities but also help the police force deliver more professional and efficient services, ensuring they stand the test of time.
