Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Defies Kogi Rally Ban, Confirms Sallah Visit

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has confirmed her plans to visit her constituency for the Eid-el-Fitr celebration despite a ban on public gatherings by the Kogi State Government.

On Tuesday, the senator urged her supporters to disregard rumors that she had canceled her scheduled visit. In a statement released by her media team, she reaffirmed her commitment to engaging with her constituents during the festive period.

The statement read, “We are pleased to confirm that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Sallah visit to Kogi Central Senatorial District will proceed as planned. Despite rumours circulating online, there has been no official announcement from our office regarding the cancellation of this visit.”

Akpoti-Uduaghan also stated that, as an elected representative, it is her duty to remain connected with the people who entrusted her with their mandate. She encouraged her supporters to come out in large numbers to celebrate with her.

“As the senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan remains committed to engaging with her community and fostering a spirit of unity and cooperation. Her dedication to the people of Kogi Central is unwavering, and she looks forward to celebrating Eid-el-Fitr with her constituents.”

The senator assured the public that adequate preparations had been made for a smooth and successful visit. “We would like to assure the public that all necessary arrangements are in place to ensure a successful and joyous event. We invite all members of the community to join us in marking this special occasion,” the statement added.

Her confirmation came just hours after the Kogi State Government announced a ban on rallies and public gatherings due to security concerns. The government’s decision followed reports of violence in parts of Kogi Local Government Area, where two lives were reportedly lost.

The Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, stated on Monday that the restriction was necessary to prevent any threats to public safety. According to him, intelligence reports suggested that certain individuals were planning to organize “violent rallies under the guise of political and religious agitations” in Kogi Central.

The state government also suspended fishing and other social activities in some areas, citing the recent security incidents as the reason for the restrictions.
