Sex Worker Dies After Dispute Over ₦15,000 in Akure

A sex worker has died after a confrontation turned violent at a brothel in the Cathedral area of Akure, Ondo State, following a disagreement over a refund.

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, according to residents familiar with the matter. It reportedly began when a male customer requested a refund of ₦15,000, saying he was not satisfied with the service.

The woman involved allegedly stopped the act midway, telling the man she felt weak and could not continue.

Eyewitnesses noted that what started as an argument quickly became a physical fight. Despite efforts by the brothel’s manager to calm both parties, the customer left angrily.

Not long after, he returned with a group of men believed to be his friends. They reportedly tried to forcefully collect the money, which caused panic among other sex workers and guests at the brothel.

The manager immediately called the police, and officers from the ‘A’ Division arrived at the scene. Three men were arrested on the spot, while the others managed to run away before the police came.

During the chaos, the woman’s condition got worse. Those around her rushed her first to a nearby hospital in the Lafe area. She was later taken to the police hospital in Akure. Unfortunately, she was declared dead upon arrival.

The spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the arrests and said the police are still searching for two other suspects involved in the case.

He said, “The names of those involved are being withheld pending further investigation.” He also noted that the body has been moved to the State Specialist Hospital morgue where an autopsy will be conducted.
