Shettima Departs For Davos To Attend 2025 WEF

Nigeria’s Vice-President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja to represent the country at the 2025 annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.

The gathering, which attracts global leaders, top executives, and representatives of development organizations, aims to address critical global economic challenges and opportunities.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Mr. Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, confirmed the Vice-President’s participation.

He emphasized that Shettima’s presence highlights Nigeria’s commitment to engaging in international discussions aimed at fostering economic growth and development.

The Vice-President will join global counterparts to deliberate on the state of the world economy, exploring avenues for improvement and resilience.

As part of his schedule, Shettima will engage in bilateral meetings with other leaders and participate in workshops designed to tackle pressing economic issues.

One key event Shettima will attend is a workshop titled “Roadmap to Co-create Investment Opportunities for Africa’s Frontier Markets.”

Organized by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the World Economic Forum, the workshop aims to encourage increased capital investment in Africa’s emerging markets.

The event, set to take place at the Congress Centre in Jakobshorn, seeks to promote a prosperous, inclusive, and resilient African continent.

A major highlight will be the unveiling of the Humanitarian and Resilience Investing (HRI) Roadmap for Africa. This initiative, spearheaded by the AfDB, focuses on fostering partnerships between public and private sector leaders to mobilize investments across Africa.

In addition, Shettima is scheduled to co-chair a forum on “Turning Digital Trade into a Catalyst for Growth in Africa” at the Pischa Congress Centre. The session will address the critical role of private sector involvement in implementing the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Digital Trade Protocol, which was adopted by African Union leaders in January 2024.

The Vice-President will also attend the “Global Risks 2025” stakeholder dialogue as a panelist and participate in a dinner for Heads of State, government officials, and international organizations.

Shettima is accompanied by key officials, including Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission, Aisha Rimi. He is expected to return to Abuja upon completing his engagements in Davos.
