Popular Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has been granted bail by the Isabo Magistrate Court in Abeokuta after being arraigned on charges related to assault and obstruction of government officials.
Portable turned himself in to the police at the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) on Wednesday after being declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command. He was later transferred to the Ogun State Police Headquarters in Eleweran before being brought before the court on Thursday.
The singer was charged with five offenses, including conspiracy, assault, unlawful restriction, being in possession of weapons such as cutlasses and guns, and conduct likely to cause public harm. When the charges were read, Portable pleaded not guilty.
His lawyer, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, urged the court to grant him bail, assuring that Portable “is now remorseful and has learnt his lessons.”
Magistrate O. L. Oke approved bail for Portable in the sum of N2 million, requiring one surety in the same amount. The case has been postponed until March 5 for further proceedings.
In addition to Portable, nine of his associates also appeared before the magistrate, facing similar allegations. The accused individuals include Nurudeen Warris (21), Adetola Alashe (25), Samuel Adeleke (28), Oluwaseun Ayenuwa (19), Oluwapelumi Adeosun (20), Gospel Kanu (20), Precious Ohiegebo (19), Ifeoluwa Babatunde (27), and Fatimo Muhammed (26). They were charged with offenses such as felony, assault, obstruction of government officials, and actions likely to disturb public order.
The case stems from an incident that took place on February 5, 2025, when Portable and his associates allegedly attacked three town planners—Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero—while they were carrying out their official duties at Odogwu Bar, a property owned by Portable in the Sango area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Government had previously condemned Portable’s alleged behavior, describing him as a “serial dissident and unrepentant rascal.” Authorities say the matter will be thoroughly investigated, and justice will take its course when the trial resumes in March.
