A fatal road accident along the Ogere axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway claimed the lives of six people on Friday, August 30, 2024. The tragic incident, which occurred around 8 a.m., involved a Toyota Sienna minivan with license plate EPE 692 EL and an unidentified truck.
According to Florence Okpe, the Public Education Officer of the Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the crash was caused by excessive speeding, resulting in the minivan crashing into the rear of the truck.
Okpe reported that the accident involved nine individuals, including two male adults and seven female adults. Sadly, two men and four women lost their lives in the crash, while three other women sustained varying degrees of injuries. The injured victims were immediately transported to Patmag Hospital in Ogere for medical treatment, and the deceased were taken to the FOS IPARA Morgue.
She said, “A total of two male adults and seven female adults were involved in the crash. Two male adults and four female adults were killed while three female adults were injured in the crash.
“The injured victims were taken to Patmag Hospital, Ogere, and the corpses were deposited at FOS IPARA Morgue.
“The suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed on the part of the Sienna Space Bus, which rammed into a moving truck from the rear. The truck did not wait after the incident.”
In response to the tragedy, the Sector Commander of the Ogun FRSC, Akinwumi Fasakin, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He emphasized the importance of road safety and urged motorists to stay focused while driving, stating that accidents like this are preventable with proper caution and adherence to traffic rules.
“The Sector Commander, Ogun Sector Command, Akinwumi Fasakin, described the crash as an avoidable act if proper caution was fully put in place by the driver. He urged motorists to ensure they give maximum concentration to driving as it is an act that requires such and obeying all traffic rules while driving on the highway.
“He further commiserated with the families of the crash victims and wished the injured victims quick recovery,” Okpe concluded.
