Six Suspects Arrested for Vandalism in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested six individuals suspected of vandalism in Kazaure Local Government Area. The arrest was confirmed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu, in a statement released on Monday in Dutse.

Shiisu noted that five of the suspects, aged between 28 and 53, were apprehended for allegedly damaging public infrastructure, while the sixth suspect, a 30-year-old man, was arrested for allegedly receiving stolen goods.

The police spokesperson explained that two of the suspects were caught on February 26 after they were allegedly found vandalizing a streetlight, armoured cable wires, and personal conduit service wires in the Bandutsi area. Following their arrest, law enforcement intensified efforts to track down others involved in similar crimes.

On February 28, three additional suspects were arrested in connection with the vandalism of nearly 2,000 meters of high-tension wires in the Faru and Daba villages of Kazaure. The police believe the suspects were working together to steal and resell valuable electrical materials, disrupting essential services in the process.

During interrogation, the suspects reportedly named a man identified as Musa Yahaya, a 30-year-old resident of the Wajen Gabas area in Kazaure town, as an accomplice. Yahaya was accused of knowingly receiving stolen electrical cables, despite being aware that they were government property.

Shiisu stated that the arrested individuals had confessed to the crime and have already been charged in court.
