Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has approved ₦1.355 billion to support Ramadan feeding centers across the state. The initiative aims to provide food assistance to the less privileged during the holy month of Ramadan.
While speaking at the Government House in Sokoto on Tuesday, Aliyu noted that the funds would be distributed across all 244 political wards in the 23 local government areas. Additionally, 27 feeding centers catering to physically challenged individuals will also benefit from the initiative.
The governor recalled that the Ramadan feeding program was originally introduced by former Governor Aliyu Wamakko but had been abandoned by the previous administration. He stated that his government has now revived and expanded the program to reach more people in need.
“You may recall that last week, we inaugurated the state Ramadan feeding committee and flagged off the distribution of food items to 150 feeding centres across the metropolis. Today, we are extending this gesture to all 244 political wards and the physically challenged persons in the state,” the governor stated.
As part of the distribution plan, each political ward and the 27 feeding centers for persons with disabilities will receive ₦5 million to provide food and other essential items for breaking fast.
Aliyu urged those in charge of the funds to manage them responsibly and with integrity. “You must put the fear of Allah first in whatever you do and remember that one day, we will all account for our deeds before our Creator,” he warned.
He also advised beneficiaries to remain patient and cooperative during the distribution process to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Reaffirming his government’s dedication to supporting the needy, Aliyu assured residents that his administration would continue introducing programs to uplift vulnerable individuals while also executing development projects that benefit the state.
He expressed gratitude to the people of Sokoto for their continued support and prayers and wished everyone a peaceful and rewarding Ramadan.
