The Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has strongly spoken out against the killing of Barrister Ifeanyi Iloakasia, a prominent legal practitioner and community leader in Aguleri.
The lawyer was murdered on Thursday, May 15, 2025, along with his client by unknown gunmen while returning from a court appearance. The attack occurred close to the Agulu-Nanka border in Orumba North Local Government Area.
In a press statement issued by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Governor Soludo described the incident as “senseless” and “tragic.” He noted that the state government is working hand-in-hand with law enforcement to ensure that the individuals responsible for the killing are tracked down and brought to justice without delay.
“The governor stated that although this criminal incident might have understandably heightened concerns among the public, Ndi Anambra should be assured that the state government is taking this matter with the utmost seriousness, working with security agencies to ensure that the fleeing killers are caught and justice is served promptly,” the statement read.
Governor Soludo expressed his condolences to the family of the late Iloakasia and the Aguleri community. He also noted that the deceased was known for promoting peace in the area and his death has left a deep wound in the hearts of many.
In a separate development, the governor also acknowledged a recent confrontation at a security post in Isuofia on the same day. He noted the courage of the security forces who prevented a larger attack. Unfortunately, one officer lost his life during the incident.
“While mourning the loss of one of the gallant officers during the confrontation, it is however reassuring that calm has returned to the area, and security operations have been intensified to ensure the continued safety of our communities,” the statement continued.
Governor Soludo urged residents of the state to stay alert and cooperate fully with security agencies as efforts continue to rid the state of criminal activity. He reassured the public that the government remains fully committed to protecting lives and maintaining peace across all communities in Anambra.
