Soludo Orders Investigation Into Alleged Brutality by Anambra Anti-Touting Officers

The Anambra State governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered an investigation into claims of abuse involving members of the State Special Anti-Touting Squad.

This decision follows the release of a disturbing video now trending on social media. The footage appears to show members of the anti-touting unit subjecting a group of suspected touts to harsh treatment in an undisclosed location within the state.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the Anambra State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, confirmed that Governor Soludo is fully aware of the video and has directed that the incident be looked into thoroughly.

Mefor said, “The Anambra State Government has taken note of a viral video purportedly showing men of the Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad drilling a group of alleged touts.”

According to the statement, the current administration is firmly against the activities of touts but insists that law enforcement must operate within the boundaries of the law. Governor Soludo, he noted, has instructed that a detailed investigation be carried out to determine what actually happened and who was involved.

He also pointed out that, “In this era of AI and sophisticated disinformation, we urge members of the public to always verify media content before spreading or holding the same as true.”

Mefor noted that the government will not accept any behavior that causes unnecessary harm or disrespect to any citizen or legal resident in Anambra State. He explained that every person deserves to be treated fairly, regardless of the situation.

He added that Soludo’s administration stands by the rule of law and will continue to protect the rights of all individuals, especially against any form of abuse or unlawful treatment.
